Animation Stage 2 advert Evaluation
My original advert was going to be about an energy drink about Red bull or a drink based upon it. I started modelling four weeks to go, which took longer than I expected for the modelling of the larger character.
Rigging the characters proved to be difficult. At first it went ok as the bones in the characters fitted quite well to the models. The difficulty proved to be in linking the bones together. The first thing I had difficulty on was the wrist controllers, the problem was that I cloned the controllers in such a way that they all affected each other. This meant that when I edited the foot controller for just toes it wiped out the finger controls on the wrist controllers. I had to redo the controls so they didn't affect each other. The other thing I couldn't work out was that the head bone does not belong in a spine IK chain, as you can't affect its pivot point with an orientation constraint. When I redid the neck IK chain I attached the head bone on top of the spine and did an orientation constraint on to the head controller which I placed to the rear of the characters.
After I sorted out the rigging I attached the bones to the turbo smoothed skin of the characters. I spent too long on working out how to do the modelling and the rigging for the characters I didn't have much time left to do the animating it self as the fight would have taking a long while to animate realistically. To overcome that problem I changed my advert to use the bomb space warp so I could animate the timing delay on the bombs. I altered the energy drink to tea as there is already a teapot in the Standard Primitives Object Type list. I then got the two characters to react to the exploding teapots as they already had a shocked expression on there faces. To make the smaller character pick up the last teapot I had to first render the frames leading up him grabbing it. I then had to link the teapot to the characters hands so he would be holding it in the rest of the animation
For the sound I used a glass breaking wav clip for the teapots, a cork popping for the head exploding and a scream.
Overall I am quite pleased with the finished animation, but it could have been better if I had worked out the rigging quicker especially that the spine IK chain for the neck and head are separate.
